What is rune?
Rune Seeker, as the name suggests, chronicles the journey of The Chosen One (that's you) as they seek powerful Runes to heal a decaying world on the brink of its demise.
So, what exactly are Runes and how do they function? Let's delve into their mysteries in this article.
1. Overview of Runes:
Runes are stone tablets that crystallize the power of the mighty Ancient Gods. They are essential in battle, allowing for the enchantment or transformation of Heroes and Terrain. The outcome of battles largely depends on the skills and tactics of The Chosen One in utilizing these Runes effectively, with success directly impacting the chances of victory.
Each Rune consists of two smaller Rune Shards:
Absorption Rune on the left: Used on allied or enemy Heroes to activate attack skills or apply special effects.
Creation Rune on the right: Applied to Terrain tiles to alter their Elemental properties or bestow special effects upon them.

For a list of Runes, please refer here.
Additionally, each Rune Shard possesses its own weight index, calculated from 1 to 3 skulls. Consequently, the total weight of each Rune will range from 2 to 6 skulls.
The Rune weight index correlates with the number of Runes a Hero can carry into battle. For further information, please read the Overview of Hero article.
2. The role of Runes and how to obtain them:
If the Hero is the unit that fights directly in battle, and the Terrain significantly increases or reduces the Hero's stats, then Runes are the only tool for the player to manipulate both the Hero and the Terrain, maximizing overall fighting ability to win against opponents.
Runes are also the primary objects players can directly interact with in each battle.
Regarding ownership, currently, you can use Rune Talisman at Fallen Sacramento to randomly acquire Runes.

There are two ways to obtain the Rune Talisman:
- Rewards from quests.
- Use resources to create Rune Talisman in Fallen Sacramento.
3. Rune-duel mechanism
Did you know: Rune Seeker matches employ a real-time parallel turn-counting system, where participating factions make decisions simultaneously. A classic example of this turn-based system is the game Rock, Paper, Scissors, where participants think and decide simultaneously, and then face the consequences of their decisions.
Each turn in the match consists of two phases: the Command Phase and the Action Phase.
a) Command phase:
Lasts for 20 seconds. At this phase, players from both sides will think and use Runes on objects on the field (a Hero or a Terrain tile) in real time. Players can use up to 4 Runes per turn.

Note that players can only use a maximum of one Rune on one object per turn.
b) Action phase:
Once the Command Phase ends, the match transitions into the Action Phase. The decisions made by players during the Command Phase will now be implemented, and players cannot take any actions during this phase.
The results of the Rune-duel between the two factions also manifest during the Action Phase, governed by the Rune-duel mechanism as follows: If both players use a Rune on the same object (a Hero or Terrain tile) during the Command Phase, only the Rune used first in real-time will take effect; subsequent Runes will be negated and removed from the match.

The system records each player's Rune usage time in real-time during the Command Phase and reveals the exact results during the Action Phase.
The Rune-duel is a crucial mechanism directly impacting the battle's outcome. To ensure your calculations and tactics are effective, you must act faster than your opponent during the Command Phase. Hesitation or loss in this duel results in the disappearance of your Runes, rendering them ineffective for your side. While the Rune-duel may seem straightforward—where speed determines the victor—to truly leverage this mechanism and optimize your advantage in battle, you must understand not only the nature and abilities of your own Heroes and Runes but also those of the many opponents you will encounter in the future. Moreover, Runes appear randomly each turn, demanding improvisation skills to navigate the battlefield's unpredictability and variables.
*Note: The Rune-duel mechanism activates only when both players use a Rune on the same target. If, in a turn, two players use Runes on different objects, the Rune-duel will not occur.
So the Chosen One has learned basic information about Rune and why these Runes are so important in the world of Rune Seeker. Take the time to learn the capabilities of different Runes to build the most suitable gameplay for yourself!
